WELCOME TO THE

Maryland Advancement Program

Project Overview

The University System of Maryland has embarked on a multi-year modernization effort to implement a Consortium-wide Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system to replace an aging CRM system used across the USM Consortium institutions.

Guided by the Governance Consortium Committee and by Project Sponsor, Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and CIO of the University System of Maryland, the Consortium will focus on procuring strategic implementation partners and technology to deliver a future state CRM.

Background

In 1994, a Consortium for Advancement Services was created to consolidate fundraising functions and IT architecture across much of the University System of Maryland (USM). The Office of Advancement Services led the maintenance of Ellucian Advance (Advance), the system chosen for this consolidated effort, and which is the system of record for fundraising activities for all Consortium members:

The Advance platform is now at the end of vendor support and not meeting the collective growing needs of the Consortium membership, there is an opportunity for a next-generation CRM Ecosystem. The current legacy system of record has more than 2 million records and approximately 530 users across Consortium institutions and USM. Over time, individual Campuses have augmented the aging solution set with in-house and commercial engagement, marketing, and event-related solutions, resulting in a constellation of more than 70 advancement technology tools in current operation.

Goals

The goals of the MARYLAND ADVANCEMENT PROJEcT:

Mission and Vision

A next-generation CRM advancement system would provide the following opportunities:

Data Enablement

An updated system would provide robust data to meet modern analysis needs, as well as establish real-time integration with other enterprise systems.

Data Hygiene

Save time and money by reducing data duplication and manual manipulation efforts.

Shared System

Consortium members would manage and support their own tool using their technical resources, allowing for more flexibility and control over data elements but also have integration with the larger USM system.
